I'm not sure if this is the best use of my time. But then again, what could be? Another year has passed. What have I gained? Another year has gone. What have I lost? A ledger with which to add, or a spreadsheet to subtract. No, it's better to leave such cruel math to the bureaucrats Aren't we all still learning how to live? Aren't we all still learning how to live? Tyrannized by the wristwatch, homogenous empty time. Another year has passed. What have I gained? Another year has gone. What have I lost? A ledger with which to add, or a spreadsheet to subtract. No, it's better to leave such cruel math to the technocrats I'm still learning how to live. I'm still learning how to live. Aren't we all still learning how to live? Aren't we all still learning how to live?

The first solo single from Jonn Gauntletier of Ars Phoenix, "January Freeze" explores the existential anguish of the New Year, the tyranny of the wrist watch and "homogenous empty time." A slow burn that tries to contain its intensity with stoic restraint, "January Freeze" treads new ground while harkening to other anti-climax classics like "The Overload" by Talking Heads, Joy Division's "Atrocity Exhibition," Interpol's "Leif Erikson," and "Equal Ways" by Clan of Xymox.

JONN GAUNTLETIER Florida

Jonn Gauntletier is best known as half of the FL darkwave duo Pass/Ages  and former frontman of the post-punk band Ars Phoenix. Horrorpop is due out in early 2020. ... more
